Heritage

The beginning

The word SCAPA comes from the Old Norse language and means ‘refuge’. SCAPA Flow is a bay in the Orkney Islands, to the north of Scotland. That’s where Brian Redding produced his first exclusive sweaters, which flew off the shelves in his wife Arlette Van Oost’s shop from day one.

The French fashion magazines Elle and Marie-Claire featured a SCAPA sweater on their covers in 1967, heralding the beginning of our success story. At the time, the SCAPA collection consisted of nothing more than a couple of sweaters, a kilt and a parka. However, ten years later it had grown into a complete collection for women, men and children.

Clothing traditions

The SCAPA style is unmistakeable: a collection that respects British clothing traditions complemented by its own distinctive, modern touch. The style is casual and the fit comfortable. The fabrics are meticulously selected: for winter the emphasis is on tweed, cashmere and soft woollen fabrics. Summer is characterised by linen, pure cotton and silk.

Since the very beginning, SCAPA has been known for its colour combinations, inspired above all by nature, the greys and blues of the sea, warm woodland shades, all earthy tones.

1994

Scapa Home

In December 1994, SCAPA successfully launched its Home collection. Initially started with only household linen, the collections became a full interior concept.

1999

Scapa Sports

In the summer of 1999, SCAPA launched a new collection: SCAPA SPORTS, a collection for women, men and children. This casual SPORTS collection is not only for young people, but for everybody with a young and sportive mind.

2000

Originals by Scapa

A year later saw the launch of ORIGINALS by SCAPA, a collection for women in which the early SCAPA style was modernised to appeal to a young and contemporary clientele.
